Job Title Pacific Direct – Operations Manager (ASIA)

Company Background:

Pacific Direct is a leading manufacturer of luxury branded bathroom toiletries specifically designed for the hotel / hospitality sector. With four manufacturing sites and eight offices around the world, the company supplies a range of household branded product ranges to hospitality customers in 110 countries. Such brands include Elemis, Floris, Aveda, The White Company, Asprey and Penhaligon’s. 

As the business continues to grow rapidly a new role based in Shanghai has been created to ensure Pacific Direct’s operational objectives in China and the efficient supply of its brands to international markets, are achieved. The new Operations Manager – Asia will work closely with the Head of Operations – Asia to enhance current capacity and performance of key supply chain efficiencies.

Role:

The Operations Manager reports to the Head of Operations – Asia and is responsible for delivering the full spectrum of merchandising functions activities including: product development, sampling, negotiation, ordering, production scheduling, on-site quality control to shipment and ultimately customer satisfaction.

 

Responsibilities:-

  • Lead a merchandising team for all merchandising activities from product development, sampling, ordering, production scheduling, on-site quality control to shipment.
  • Ensure merchandising team negotiate optimum terms with suppliers to maximize gross profit;
  • Manage NPD projects, and its tracker
  • Oversee supplier RFQ & RFP preparation, and quotation tracker.
  • Monitor production status to meet shipment deadline
  • Ensure buffer stocks are adequately maintained at relevant locations
  • Monitor the monthly freight expenditure, and initiate actions to optimize gross profit
  • Manage vendor claims on a timely fashion
  • Maintain ERP system
  • Proactively expand vendor base and attend trade shows to identify new product trends;
  • Lead the merchandising team in maintaining strong relationship with all vendors;
  • Effectively train and motivate the merchandising team to optimize team performance and staff morale.

Requirements:-

  • University graduate or diploma holder in chemistry or related discipline;
  • 10 years or above independent merchandising experience in cosmetic industry, of which 5 years in a supervisory position;
  • Strong cosmetic sense and command of market needs and trends;
  • Responsible, well organized, self-motivated and independent;
  • Excellent analytical and negotiation skill; good time management;
  • Proficiency in MS Office;
  • Good command of spoken and written English and Chinese;
  • Experience of product development, sample delivery, order & production schedule follow up;
  • Strong negotiating abilities in dealing with vendors and factories;
  • Must have export business experience.
  • Frequent travel is required;

Qualifications / Experience:

  • Strong leadership, management and problem solving skills. Tactful and diplomatic in communicating with external and internal customers
  • Solid experience in hotel amenities and/or cosmetic business with deep understanding on the entire production process
  • Familiar with factory operations, supply chain management and costing control
  • Facilitating and validating overall merchandising decision making, monitor sales order process and manage the daily operations
  • Able to resolve critical issues arising from merchandising, production work flow, product quality and shipment delivery
  • Leading and training team members to ensure they are able to carry out and meet key duties and responsibilities.
  • Exposure in quality control in the value chain cycle from product development until delivery to market
  • Knowledge of negotiation with vendors including lead time and pricing to ensure reliable service, quality and low cost procurement
  • Capable of managing multiple projects at one time and dealing with key stakeholders in the business globally
